ATV wilderness touring

The Black Hills National Forest provides unlimited access for 4-wheeling.  Enjoy hundreds of miles of outstanding scenery, wildlife and explore abandoned mines &  homesteads.   Many fire & logging trails are easily accessed from Wild Bill's Campground and provide exceptional exploring opportunities.

The snowmobile trails that are on Forest Service Land (most of the trails) are open to ATV exploring, however, the trail marking is removed at the end of the snowmobiling season (March 15th). The "Mickelson Biking & Hiking Trail" is strictly off limits to motorized vehicles during other seasons than the (Snowmobile Season – Dec. 15 through Mar 15th). Also please note and respect the "private property" portions of the trail system (prior permission is required before entry).

The Black Hills National Forest does not have a designated ATV trail, but does not restrict ATV access unless there is a fire hazard access restriction to motorized vehicles.  The Black Hills National Forest properties are quite extensive and well marked with "Forest Service Property Boundary" signs.

Please respect private property.  Permission is required to legally access private property.  Private property is generally fenced and exhibit "Forest Service Property Boundary" signs.

ATV's must be licensed to operate on public highways & roads.
